I am so freaking happy that this is the last week of blogs. I was running out of ideas my brain was strating to die. But now that is all set and done what should I do with all this time that I have at hand. I probably will go to sleep or just waist it even tough I realy shouldn’t. I should use it as study time for all my finals and then get some rest for the week ahead which should be a hard week with test and work and everything else going on. But after that summer time to relax and take summer school.

This week has been crazy I have to study for this entire test and do all the projects and papers. All this fell on me at the same time plus I have all this fraternity stuff that I have to do to be initiated by the end of this semester and that would be really cool so I can be an initiated member by that time and have ill bros I’m very excited to do this. So I can influence other members to go through and do their stuff so they can come to the fraternity as one person and leave a better man than he got there as I hope I do also. At first I thought I was not going to care about all that family stuff but once I went through the first ritual I realize the importance and the influence that the fraternity can give me.

I went to see the play animal farm and it was very very long. It was very different and I really didn’t like it because of the third person talking and they were different animals all the time and you didn’t know when they wear which animals. It seemed that I was lost and did not know what was going on I didn’t know when they where humans or when they were animals. I think that maybe if they would have had more cast members and given some of them costumes so you can distinguish them better but that is just my personal opinion. Maybe it was just me and I like the more humoristic plays but it was ok definitely not my favorite play that I have seen at Memphis.

This is the last week of school and it seems that we started not long ago. I’m already done with my first college year. I already have my summer classes picked out and my fall classes. When they tell you that time flies and you should take advantage of it they are not laying. Ever since I got to high school I heard everyone saying that your time in high school will never come back and they are right. It seemed that I had so long before I graduated and that I had so much time before I had to pick a college to go to and then the day came all at one forms, applications and trying to get things done so quickly. Now I’m done already with my first year and going on the second one. My advice to everyone in high school is to do things on time and before time because it flies.

I’m writing this blog from the road again. Now I’m in Cape Girade in Missouri it was a very long drive but we went to this restaurant called Lamberts and the concept is really cool they have a bread thrower he passes around screaming hot rolls and if you want one you just raise your hand or just scream hot roll and he will just throw it at you. I was cool to see old people trying to catch the hot rolls is pretty funny. The food was good too it’s just southern food with a lot of fried things. They also serve you your drink in this humongous cup that is around twenty ounces. The amount of food that you get is really big amount for two and you get two sides and they have people just walking around with different sides that you don’t have to pay extra for. It was great!!! But now I have to go to sleep big tournament tomorrow.

well I don’t know about you but I am so ready for classes to be over and go finally to the summer yet at the same time here I am picking my summer classes o well what can you do? You have to get things done and the sooner you get things done the better. Don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today so hopefully I can finish all my general education classes and finally go to my major. It’s going to be a hard transition with the volleyball and the fraternity and the load of work that the core classes will bring. Hopefully I can manage the volleyball and the work load so I can have some relax time so I can come around the fraternity more often. Because the reason why I could not rush was because I had pre season, but they say that the pre season is not going to be as hard this year because of school schedules. Hopefully all of this will just add up and make a great semester of fun and some serious times also for studying.

So on Wednesday I finally went to the second part of my fraternity. I didn’t know what to expect but it was fun it really was an experience. It made me realize what I was involved with and what I was becoming and the reason why I am Greek and especially the reason why I am in this fraternity. For the new guys we have to get signatures and info from the rest of the other brothers. Well there is a part where you have to say what is your favorite thing about the fraternity and from now own I effetely have to say that the best thing is rituals and brotherhood. I didn’t think it was going to change my mind towards the frat but it really did it was amazing experience.

So yesterday I had one of the most hectic days I had so many things to do but so little time. For instance and English paper to write (Hahaha) a Spanish paper to write for Thursday and I still have not started yet. Then after trying to fit all of those in one day plus class I had to go to the doc again because I was not felling good I was still coughing. Well after I spent some precious time in the doctor’s office I was diagnose with bronchitis and with a very big chance of getting pneumonia. It was not good but he have me five antibiotics and all this other medicine. After that, I had to get back to campus to find out that my shower was not working at the dorms and they could not fix it so thank god to the frat house it is. Then I was headed to the want women want seminar that we had yesterday that lasted about an hour and forty five minutes but before that ended I had to leave so I can get change from my formal clothing to more comfy clothing for all song practice. All sing practice then lasted till two in the morning I was very exhausted by that time I just went to sleep. Great day huh

This week started off with a great weekend that I enjoyed very much until Monday night. It was a very good game the Memphis and Kansas matchups where incredible we were up then they were up it was a very intense game that I really thought we had in the bag. Then they started to foul us and it was not pretty everyone at the house was very nervous nobody could believe they can come back and win it. Then we missed and they made and we missed again and they made it was not good at all. Suddenly it’s a 3 point game and nine seconds in the shot clock it was incredible how he made that shot and tied the game with less than a second in the game so we have to go to over time with the other team having the momentum and Joey foul out it was not good. They came aggressive and we could stop them or answer quickly enough. Well at the end of those very bad five minutes even though we lost we had the best season we have ever had. Im still proud of what they accomplished and what they did to the university. Go tigers!

Why get sick now it’s so close to my birthday and so many activities to do. O well maybe because if this weather that we have been having its ridiculous one day we have a sunny day where you can ride in the car with all the windows done and then we have a day of cold weather followed by nonstop raining for the next three. This maybe the reason my I’m not the only one sick and a lot of people around me are sick as well because of the temperature change plus the dorms that circulate the air and germs so all the people that get sick are the people that live close to each other. But o well I hope that this passes by and it doesn’t get complicated into something worse.

On Thursday we played the pi kapp tournament in which we entered two teams. We had won it two years in a row and we where going for the third time in a row. Well our first opponent was not a challenge to us then the second team played and that team was not a challenge for them. So we finally ended up playing the championship game against ourselves. So we won first and second in the tournament that was too cold to be outside. From now on we should not lose in volleyball again.

You know when you have a dream that you think is so real then you wake up and realize that it was a dream or sometimes you still think it was real or that you are still asleep so you have to make sure that you are up. Well last night I had a dream that was so real I woke up very mad. I went to a party at this house and when I went to go get something at my car it was not there as I walked to where it was supposed to be at the guy who was stealing it was turning it around to leave so I started to run towards the car and he step on it and I jumped in the hood of the car and when I was about to land on the hood I woke up and I was so happy that it was not real because I would have been really mad. Even though I tough it was a dream I looked out the window so I can see that my car was still out there.

April fool’s day is a great day to pull pranks on anybody. But this year it was a boring one no pranks I couldn’t even come up with one. I remember when we decide not to go to class as a group and the teacher was so confused because no one was showing up. Until she walked outside of the class room and there we were just waiting for her to say April fools day. It used to be fun but I guess no I have more important things to do like blogs and papers to write. But for next year I’m going to plan something good either in the fraternity or in the volleyball team, it should be really fun if it works.

Memphis yeaaaaaa going to the final four!!!!! People didn’t think that we were going to make it but here we are and we are here to stay and go to the championship game probably against UNC. That is the match up that I want to see and it’s probably a very good game. The Tar heels should have no problem with Kansas they should beat them on a very big margin. Now the UCLA vs. Memphis is the game that should be a very good game in the final four. UCLA have very good players and they have a history over us. They have 11 NCCAA tournaments titles and many more experiences; we have 0 titles and almost no appearances. If we play the way we played against Michigan St. and Texas then there no team that can beat us and we should be able to go all the way and win the championship.

Memphis the underdog or not. they have had a veruy good season but they have been over shadow because of their conference. Now even Ut knox is gone and we move on to the elite eight. There are still some people that think that we cant make it and that we will loose especially because the game is going to be played at houston and Texas is going to have the advantage. But all we have to do is focus on day at a time point to point. I think that the tigers are going to go all the way to the championship and there we just need to see who comes out to play. Becaue even tuogh i want the tigers to win is all goin to come down to the day of who ever come out yo play and who ever wants it more that will be the winners of the NCCA tournament. Go tigers all the way.

The second writer was much better because I was more interested in the baseball theme and he just didn’t seem like a regular writer. He was not the stereotype he was cool at least I tough he was. It was interesting to see how he put his book together and how he arrange his thought and kept the book away from him and more of a story from someone else until the last chapter where he put a little of his info from his perspective. It was good information and the most interesting. The third reader had a different theme than the other two. She talked about was in Kosovo and how the guy at the US help out the guerrillas over there. It was really interesting to hear the story and learn all these new information. What was also surprising was that she was involved in a law suit that this guy accuses her of defamation. Over all it was great experience in which I learned a lot. I tough t all the reader where very open to answer any question and they looked really excited to be there.

So the reading at the mansion was actually not as bad as I tough it was goin to be. The first author was good but was the least interesting of the three. Her topic of writing was linguistics. To me this was not very interesting I almost fell asleep but I did learn about her style and how she comes to her books. She was from Australia and I’m from Puerto Rico so I had some troble understanding the reading at many points in the reading. Overall it was a really good experience in the big mansion with all these people that I did not know the majority of the people. When I got to the house I was not sure if it was the house or not but Mauricus and I where sacred to approach the door and not be the right house. It was funny but we fortunately saw some people that we knew going into the house. But the funniest part of the night was when we got hit on by these girls that where at least twice our age.hahaha

ole miss

Today is the first volleyball tournament of the season in Ole Miss. Now is the time when we have to travel everywhere and get fat. I say that because we eat out all the time and am so tempting to have all the delicious food in the restaurant. At least there not that many tournaments and we barely travel but when we are in regular season in the fall we eat out at all these nice restaurants like Olive Garden and Pf Chang. Everything with no limits, one or two times a week but on long weekends we eat out for breakfast lunch and dinner. Last semester I gained so much weight and is not going to happen now because I am going to try hard to stay away from the fating foods. Try to go for the salads little dressing try to stay in shape. Is hard and the temptation will be there but no pain no game.

Music is a part of all our lives it doesn’t matter what type of music you listen to but everyone has something they like. For me are the reggae, reaggaeton, Spanish rock and hip hop. For me music was very influential when I fist move here. With my music I felt that I was closer to home and I didn’t miss it that much especially at the age that I move here is the age over there that you start going out to parties and all that good stuff. Well it was really hard for me because the language and culture change. It was a reminder from home and it kept me from going crazy in my apartment in which I had never lived in an apartment before. Music can be really influential in all cultures and every culture and race has their own that makes them who they are.

So the tournament has begun Who is your pic? some people dont have faith that MEmphis can make it all the way and its really not their fault. The fault goes to the conference because is a really crapy conference. If we hadnt played the games at the begining they probably would have us out in the first round. I rally dont think that is going to happen if they are determined and are ready to play every game then they wont have any problems. In most brackets in ESPN we get to the final four but i think that they have a better chance than that this year. If everyone plays well and stay healthy we should go far. But we really have to be carefull because the other team has nothing to loose they are going to cocme out and put everything out there on the court.

volleyball

So today we played for the fist time volleyball in the fraternity. I had to give them a clinic so they learn what volleyball is all about. They knew i had some experience in volleyball but they didnt know all my background that i have in it. After a couple of games the questions started poping out where did you play before did you play at home. Well i had to explain to them that i started playing when i was eight years old and i have been to the junior olympics twice and brought back a bronze medal and a gold medal those where the years of true fun. I was seven days a week in the volleyball courts and in the class room. i was in three teams at the same time it was crazy but it was super fun. so after that and a couple of spikes it was on.

Greek week has been ok I guess to be my first one but I had some interesting activities. For instance they had speed dating for Greeks and battle of the sexes it was fun. But the end was weak we just stood around for an hour and then we had to stand around for a little more to wait for the results. At the end of the day we lost but it was fun either way. Probably for next year they probably are going to make it different and have it more organize than this year. This been my fist year in college and in a fraternity it has been and experience never to forget even if I don’t do it next year it was awesome. I have learned to balance the Greek life with a student and as an athlete for the University of Memphis. I encourage everyone to try it out.

Ok so I’m not going to lie but the Memphis river reader was very boring yet interesting. To me what the most interesting thing about the reading was his illness and how he recovered from it. He basically had to start from the beginning in learning how to eat, think and talk. If he had not said anything about that I would have not know that he had undergone all of that. He says that the sickness help him to become a better writer overall. He has written poems and memoirs, I liked the one he read to us about his mom and dad meeting up it was comical. I’m not a literature person but is really cool to hear the thought process that the writer goes through to write his work. Even though it sometimes got boring it was cool I liked it. I guess the real moral of the entire thing is that you should never give up on anything and if you put your mind set to something you can make it happen.

Iraq

My brother lost his job because the company where worked for shut down. He had a big problem to get another job so he tried to enlist in the army. Well this happened before the war in Iraq broke out. When the us declared was he was in basic training so when he came back from basic training he was at home for two weeks and then he got the call to go to Iraq for a whole year. It was really hard for us to accept it but he left and thank to god he came back alive and kicking. But then after some time of rest he was called again to Iraq for another year. this was even worst because they told him that he could change his MOS(Military Occupation Specialty) but they didn’t so he had to go again this time he had to come back early because of a family emergency. During his leave the person that took his job was killed in the same tank that he drove doing the same thing that he did. This to him was very devastating because it was his friend and could have been him. Well when he finally came back he had problems because he said that he use to see the guy that died and couldn’t sleep. From war past we can already know that this is PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) now he is going to get help as many of the soldiers that come back from there. He is getting better.

WArm WEATHER

Why does it not just go to the warm weather? I come back from spring break in an island to snow. Then the next day is really cold in fact it was still some snow out on that Monday. We are almost in April and still moves back and forth. I’m just ready to finally wake up and just wear some shorts and a t-shirt and walk to my eight a clock class without a jacket. I don’t like the cold weather at all especially here in Memphis because it can get windy and really cold but there’s barely any snow but when the snow falls I’m not even here. Well what can you do I guess is just part of the real crazy weather that I already talk about here in Memphis.

I didn’t notice how dependable we are of cell phones. Yea right just look around you everyone has a cell phone some people have two with different companies. I remember when my mom had her first cell phone it was humongous I was cool at the time but you look at it now and it’s ridiculous. Now if not all most of them come with cameras and color screen you have the touch screen PDA and all that good stuff. When we went to the DR it was crazy how I actually missed my phone I was going through withdrawal. I’m just playing it wasn’t that bad but I did miss it until I turned it on in the middle of the week because I could reach my parents and they could not reach me so I called them well we got carried away in the conversation and ran the bill up sixty dollars in just one conversation. It was bad when I found out that they charge me two dollars for each minute. This is what phone companies do because they know you are going to use it because of the dependencies on it. The world of technologies is a world of evolution in with we live in today.

MEMPHIS

It’s getting to that point in the basketball season where it is do or die. This week Memphis will have the conference tournament with a home court advantage. I’m ready for the real tournament the NCAA where I hope that we win. It’s been if not the best season one of the best seasons and I think they deserve it if they keep working hard all the way. They have brought down two opponents and they are ready for the finals to go to the big one. Coach Cal has done a really good job with the team and he will continue to do that in the NCAA tournament. Even though there are some really good teams out there that might get in our way if they play with the intensity and aggressiveness we have done all year then we will not have a problem playing against those tough opponents. Even though we where number one for most of the season they haven’t been talking much about us. Which is not a bad thing because they think we won’t make it, most of the talk always goes to Duke and North Carolina and all those schools that are known for having good basketball programs. We might be number one turn Sunday if we are not were still kicking butt.

DR

my experience in the Dominican republic was a real eye opener to all the things that we have but we don’t pay attention to them because there common in the society. It was sad to see how some of the people had to live and in the conditions they have to live in. We had two groups and we both went to different places but each group was supposed t see 100 families with a maximum of 5 people in a family. Well is was so hard to turn down all the people that where asking for help that they looked like they need it so we allowed the group that was standing outside so our number or families at that point multiplied so we had 100 more families to see. At the end of the day we were running out of supplies and still had some people to see. One we saw the last one pack everything and left we saw over seven hundred people. To me the most satisfying feeling was when they left the little office we had for them they were really grateful that we were helping them. I will definitely do it again if I can because is really rewarding to see all those people with little resources and to hear their stories it was really a magnificent experience.

Go tigers

Well that’s it for perfection but it’s just a wakeup call that we can loose and that we are good but need to get better. UT fans where so happy for the win over the Tigers on Saturday but not for too long they had a tough opponent Vanderbilt next where they were favor to loose and guess what happened the number one back to its place the tigers should move up to being number one again thanks to the lost but not the Tigers need to concentrate on not loosing anymore games so they can finish an amazing season 33-1. The tigers this year have a great chance of winning it all they just need to play their game every game instead of half doing it. But now that we don’t have that burden of when is the first time that we are going to lose we have lost but now it’s winning all the way. Even the ESPN analysts are saying that that lost is the last one of the season. Hopefully we will be seen them in the championship game in April.

paradigm

The word paradigm is a very weird at least to me. When I looked the definition in the dictionary it was very confusing I read it about five times and still was confused. I called my mom to see if she could interpret it better. The definition that the dictionary said where two the first is, a set of forms all of which contain a particular element, esp. the set of all inflected forms based on a single stem or theme the second is, a display in fixed arrangement of such a set, as boy, boy's, boys, boys'. To me this was very confusing and is still is to be quite honest. After some long time of explaining what I think it means is when you have a word and you just put an apostrophe on it, it changes its meaning depending on where the apostrophe is placed on. But I’m not really sure about it I’m trying to find more information and examples on it.

So I was just minding my own business, actually I was very sad and depressed because of some situations happening at home. I was really starting to think this was the worst beginning to a year I have ever had. But suddenly my mom gives me a call because she got this email about the opportunity of going to the Dominican Republic to help out in a mission trip. When she said that I tough it was the best opportunity to get out and just get my mind off of things. Then I thought wait I have heard stories of mission trips where the people had to stay in a basement of a church and it just wasn’t the best thing if you’re depressed to sleep in a basement. But at the same time the person who send the email is a very good friend and he was going. My mom told him to call me to give me more information of what we were doing down there. After he told me that we were going to be translators for the University of Memphis nurses that where going to help the needed in D.R. After he told me that and I read a quote he put at the end of the email by the famous Puerto Rican baseball player Roberto Clemente "when ever you have the opportunity to help the world and you don’t you are waiting your time in earth". To me that alone is a great inspiration to go and help other no matter where I’m going to stay. I agreed so I will be heading there on Monday for the spring break. At the same time I will be seeing healthcare in a different perspective that could help my paper later.

Play

On Friday night I went to go see the play at the University The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. It was a good play different from some that I have participated in; it was a play inside a play. Also the audience was very involved with the characters and the decisions of the play. Very different than a regular play because of its nature of being a play in one. It was based on a mystery of a murder around a triangle of love around Rosa. Very interesting the characters well played with some very good singing talent. If you miss this play you should go see the next one. All the plays I have been to in there are well done and you have fun in them. Most of the plays have a mixture of elements that make it funny interesting but they don’t get old. When the actor gets the chance to milk a situation sometimes it can turn bad because it can get old after some time but the actors have done a good job from staying away from that for the most part. But other than that it was a good play and I enjoyed it and suggest that you go and see on the p the plays at the theater

Part one

In my first paper it was hard to get in a grove and write. It was also hard to get the amount of pages required. After the first couple of times of erasing my first sentence I decided just to write and not force things to work just let them flow. That’s when my paper started to get some shape. From there it was easier to develop yet it was hard because the topic is so broad. It covers all the way from obesity to foot fungus. This topic can lead to at least to of the other topics. Hopefully I can incorporate then in the following paper.

ER

Healthcare is my topic of choice I tough it would be interesting to find information on it. I saw the movie Sicko and tough it was very interesting and had c=some good stories on it. Then I started to think I just had some experiences in the healthcare system myself. I have never been in the hospital for anything other than some stitches years ago. But suddenly when I get out of school one day I have this pain in my stomach but I did not think much of it. Well my mom convinces me to go to the doctor to get check out. When I got there it took them about three seconds to determine what I had was appendicitis and I had to go to the hospital immediately. When I got to the hospital I was feeling ok but then they told me that they had to operate that same night. I spent two days in the hospital recovering from surgery and then I went home feeling like crap but what can you do. I was feeling well until my mom said you are not going to believe how much money the medical bill is. Well I was expecting it to be around a thousand or two at the most but I was completely wrong. The bill was for fifth teen thousand dollars for 2 days in the hospital with out the surgery. Even tough I was lucky and the plan covered it that is a lot of money for the amount of time that I stayed there. This is just one example of many others that are out there of the amount of money in this business.

greek life

When I got here to the University of Memphis I wanted to go Greek but because of volleyball I couldn’t I was sad yet I thought maybe I can just hang out with some of my friends that were Greek. I did and I was surprise it was not what you see in movies or anything like that. Several weeks later I got a bid from them and I decided to join I was happy because it involve me more with the university and I thought it was going to be a good experience for me plus the networking would be really good. Another good incentive was my girlfriend at the time she had also gone Greek so I joined her. So far my experience has been great met a lot of people. Many have a different view of going Greek because of movies and just television in general. There is a place for everyone in the Greek system they even have a business fraternity, an architecture fraternity if you want to go Greek and you don’t know just come out and see where you fit the best it’s a great opportunity to do something different in college.

news

I don’t sit down and watch the news that much but when I do is like the repeat of last week. For example the Brittany thing they just let it go I’ll bet there are millions of stories out there that are more interesting than that. Ask yourself why is the media wasting its time on Brittany well is pretty simple as a society we like to hear what is going on in celebrities life. That’s why the tabloid magazines are still up in the shelves and not bankrupt. Because we are a society that is noisy not all of us but the majority. The news channel only really care about their rating and what brings them more ratings is what they are going to air. Don’t you think they should be focusing on other issues about actual problems that are happening? That is just my opinion that we put too much emphasis in trivial things instead of important information.

The slogan “get out and vote” is big because it’s similar to the one we had a couple or year ago by Sean Puffy Combs vote or die. They both just try to get people out to vote so they can express their opinion on who is going to run this country. The importance of voting has increase during the years. When I first started reading it reminded me of myself because I don’t think that if I vote is going to make a difference that my vote really wont matter at the end or just that I don’t know enough about the candidates to make a decision. To me the voice behind the slogan is the voice of a non voter or a person who votes but also gives importance to the non voters and their rights. Maybe is just me but I can’t tell if she has a political affiliation because I don’t like politics that much and I haven’t been around in the US enough to know the difference between parties. I do believe that the person speaking is a woman even tough is not but it might be some of the wording that might have let me to believe that it was a female instead of a male.

The audience for this slogan is everybody the voters and the non voters. It tells the voter who complain that people don’t vote that maybe they had a good reason not to vote. Like it said in the example of the essay about the school elections when that guy that did not know anything about the candidates didn’t vote because he wanted the people with actual knowledge about the candidates vote instead of just putting down a name just to say that you voted. All media has different ways to make you vote or try to get you out and voting. The music industry does it also like I mention before Diddy had a strong campaign for voting last election and it seem to work since there was an increase in the voting poles. Then other artist had “Rock Your Vote” another way to pursue the young people to vote. For the rest of the ages I think is mostly television all the candidates speaking in debates, going from state to state trying to get their message out to the people so they can vote for them.

A new way of getting people not to vote for you has been the attack messages that the other candidates put on television trying to change people’s opinion in voting by bringing up bad things about their opponent. For these primaries I haven’t seen commercial of that sort but when the sparks is down to the last two candidates, will start flying. It gets more intense when is down to the wire and is not there yet and we are having some fire within the same political party.

The argument at the end is that the real importance in voting is not the just going to a booth and placing an X in the paper just because he had to vote. But instead if you want to vote you should learn about the two candidates study them and see what each ones brings to the table. If you do all the research then you can make a decision in which candidate you think is better. I agree with what the author said I you don’t know anything then you are just wasting your vote in a sense just falling into what they wanted in the first place to get people to vote for them because they are the most publicize not because of what they offer as candidates. The way I see it is if you decide not to vote then you can’t complain about how your country is been run you can argue why the other candidate would have been better because you decided not to vote. If you know enough about the candidates make a decision and then you can argue all you want about the way the president is running things. I’m the perfect example for that I didn’t vote so I can’t argue and to be honest I don’t think that I will vote. You may ask why? I really don’t know I might change my mind but for now that what I’m doing.

To my surprise I notice that the paper was written so long ago in 1955. Yet we still have the same issues going on today trying t get people to vote. But I think the only difference between then and now is that you don’t see the people caring about how much the people really know about the candidates they just want people to get out and vote. This might mean that back then it was more important that the people that had an actual knowledge voted instead of having many to show up to vote but have no knowledge about the candidates.

Voting is really important because is the only time where you can choose who is going to be making decisions for you. Who is going be representing your country around the world. Go vote but with a sense that you know what you’re doing.

Thanks for smoking

This movie was funny in some parts and very sarcastic. To me it was impressive how he could turn around everyone’s words in to his favor. The mentally that he has during the entire film. What wasn’t really surprising is that the tobacco companies don’t care how many people die because of the product they make but how much money they make each year. It’s a business and they do what business they provide a product that people want. I like this movie because it was sarcastic and funny but it had a message behind it all. Obviously I won’t tell you just in case you haven’t seen this movie go ahead and watch it. It might get you mad at the beginning because of the situation they shoot you in yet is funny if you have a good sense of humor and understand that what he does for a living is talk. Talk to people and change their way of thinking. Yet he never says you need to smoke or anything like that, he actually just says try it for yourself which is not right either but is just the way he addresses people to turn their words around.

Sicko

I watch Sicko and it was surprising what he found out. Even though it was one of the most controversial films he has done and of course farenhight 9/11. He goes to different countries hospitals to see how a normal day at the hospital looks like and to see how their heal care system works. Even tough CNN and other media crushed his movie I think that if he has the facts to back it up then why not just accept the fact that we need to improved our healthcare system. Also that we are not number one and that other countries can be number one. To me it seems that as Americans we see the country as number one in everything because we live in it but is not true. We are not number one in this issue and unless we begin to change drastically we won’t be. I was in the hospital for a couple of hours because of kidney stones and let’s just say the bill was in the thousands. Are little things like that that can take you out of your budget and you can go into bankruptcy. This is just one of the examples that a bill like that can take on the average family in the US.

tornado

Speaking of crazy weather last night was crazy. I was in practice when they send a text message to everyone that the school was going to close at two thirty. Practice got cancelled so I went to my dorm but left my car in the garage just in case another tree falls down on top of my car. It looked ok like it was going to miss us but it started to get really dark and then the rain started. I was just chilling playing some Call of Duty 4 when my friend came in the room. Not even a minute went buy when the RA bang on the door and told everybody to go down to the basement. The sirens where going off and all the RA where telling everyone to go to the basement. To be onset I was a little scared. It was really happening see they said that they were planning just in case we had to go down there and we did. We were down there for a good while. Then the sirens went off and we returned to our dorms. But it was a really scary after I saw the damages that it had done really close to where my dad works.

Healthcare is a very complicated subject and a very broad topic. When I did the first part of the paper is when I notice how big my search was. They are so many different topics that are related to healthcare. I was frustrated I didn’t know what to write about in the first part. To me is hard to write but when is a broad topic is even harder. I had all this material but nothing in the page. Well I finally decided to start writing about thing like Tenncare which basically gave me my first paper. See I was looking at the stuff this programs offers and is pretty good stuff. But I’m still wondering is this what the government wants us to see but are the people actually getting the help from this program. Hopefully I will find out and incorporate it in my next paper.

What HAppend

I really didn’t think that I was going to be saying this but the Giants won. I have to give it to them I knew it came down to who really came out and play and the giants did. I tough Eli was going to choke because he is young but he came through for the Giants big time. When everyone though it was over he kept it cool and threw a touchdown pass. He also broke a sure sack but out of nowhere he came through and got a first down. He was determined to win the game everybody in the giants team was playing well they were making Brady play out of his game he didn’t have time to pass so he could convert. All I know is that a lot of people lost a lot of money in this game because almost everybody thought that the Patriots were going to win like every other game that they played this season. Well that it for that they made history anyways by making it the biggest upset in NLF history. But congrats to the Giants they played a very good game.

indecision part 2

Well maybe you read my first part but just in case you did not this is a quick summary. In the first part I was talking about how people always have indecisions when they are going to buy something with your money instead of the money of your parents. Well this is the second part the other one I left off that I finally bought the Xbox 360 but I needed a television to watch it on so the search began I was very tired of looking for prices because I was going to have to pay for it. So I window shopped in every single electronic store there is. Then I started to shop online and found this real cool TV at Wall Mart is the biggest but the cheapest of all the TV if have seen. It was getting to close to Christmas so I told my mom about it but she just said really that cool, are you going to buy it? So here was my chance to say it was going to be my Christmas present but then I stop because I remembered them saying that they were going o buy me a TV for my dorm. So when I brought that up it was shut DOWN IMEDEATELY so I had to stick to plan A. But that plan was also brought down because we were going to be in Puerto Rico for Christmas. So I had to do something but I didn’t I went to Puerto Rico and Christmas day arrive with two hats and some cash but with a letter that said that I had a Visio twenty six inch waiting for me when I got back here. To me that was a big relief no more shopping or trying to figure out what TV is best for me I finally got it took a while but I got it.

indecision part 2

The CRazy WEATher

This week has not bee the best week weather wise. It was rainy, cold, windy, and it was definitely not cool to walk to class in. You see I washed my car on Sunday because there was very little chance of rain...well think again. Obviously it rained Monday like every other day that I was my car. Is like a sensor the sky just looks and says hey look guys Gabe is washing his car is time to rain but lets wait till tomorrow when his out already so it doesn’t matter that he washed his car. Sometimes that’s how I feel is just way to coincidental. But how about that crazy weather in Memphis very consistent that’s for sure if cold you better is bet that the next day will NOT be absolutely cold. But we do have some variation in the weather is strange but it happens but not suddenly because that would be completely illogical and irrational. I mean just look at the weather for this week and the next, they are completely different this week we star a day at twenty degrees and the next at sixty. Sometimes I wonder how is possible to stay so consistent so I don’t have to worry about having to have two different jackets on for the morning and another one for the afternoon. But don’t worry people next week we might have some slight changes so be ready not that you are but just be careful.

Memphis number 1

You know some people say your not a true fan unless you have being with the team during the winning streak and their loosing streak. Well to an extent yes but people change their minds all the time plus people don't like loosing so that's why they mite change the team that the like or move away from the team that they use to like because they are loosing now. For example the Memphis tigers they were nobodies a couple of years ago but now that they are really good all of their games are sold out. I'm a freshman and i really didn't know that much about the history of the team but i started to become more appreciative of them since they were really good and i get in to the games for free. When the season started i was there but it was not a sold out event. Now its hard to get in even if you are a student. I like them already before being number one but now even more because i can tell all my other friends back home and in other universities that i go to that school that has the number one team in the nation. Its great and i wish them the best of luck during their entire season and i hope that they go to the finals and win it all.

I got one

So last night i couldn't go to sleep for some reason. I finally went to sleep around two in the morning. The next day i woke up at six thirty in the morning i don't know how but i did, got dressed and went out to wilder tower. when i got there there was nobody there i taught maybe i was crazy or something . I didn't think the doors were open until i saw someone that went in. I went inside and there it was what i was expecting people sitting down waiting to get tickets for the Tennessee game. I didn't know how many were in front of me but i knew it definitely was not three hundred and twenty five which was the number of tickets they had to sell. I sat down and started to fall asleep... now to give you and idea i got there at six forty in the morning the cops where there just checking that nobody cuts in line or that people save places to friends. While i was there this guy came to talk to the people in front of me i was listening to the conversation they were having and he was actually number two in line he said that he got there at FOUR in the morning. That is ridiculous just to get one ticket, what is even more ridiculous is that people payed their Friends to stand in line with them to get to tickets. This guy in front of us payed his friend twenty five dollars to stand in line and buy him a ticket. After about three hours in line I finally got to the window to get a ticket before I even left the building this guy walked up to me and asked me if I bought a Tennessee ticket. When I said yes he told me that he would pay me one hundred dollars cash for it, but I had to say no because the ticket was for someone important. It was tough but i manage to survive the chaos.

It was a good day it is Friday and I got out of class early. I went to the tiger den with one of my friends after class we were just hanging out when as she gets a text message I get a phone call . Its my mom I didn't think much of it I just taught she was calling to say hello and see how things are going. But she changes the conversation topic really fast and says i have really bad news. My heart stooped i did not know what had happened when she tells me that one of our great long time friend has suddenly died. I could not believe what she said in fact I could not grasp it because that same night I had a dream about him. He was my grandparents best friend they always did things together he was a happy guy that enjoyed every day that he was with us. It came so sudden, i saw him in Puerto Rico before I came back in January and he looked really good he had no health problems or anything of that kind. He only slip one time and fell on his head really hard. Now this part is what makes me want to research about health care. He was taken to the hospital and there because there was no room available for him they put him in the hall way then after all his test where done they notice that he might not have fallen but that he had a stroke. Now lets be real if your patient cant recognize people not even his wife and he cant walk or talk very well why would you tell him that he can go home and if he doesn't get better then he can come back to do more test. That is absurd because of negligence I have lost a long time friend and he left behind grand kids and an entire family behind.

Desiciones

You know when you really want something but you cant get it at the moment because you don have the money or the time. Then when you have the money and the time to get it you hesitate on buying it because of the price and then you start asking your self is this really what i want to do with my money. then you start coming up with all this excuses not to buy it..... oo but what if i can get it cheaper in Christmas when maybe the will have a special going on or maybe i can find something else that i want i mean need. This is what was going through my head at the video game store. I finally had the money to buy me an xbox 360 but i was been a little stingy because it was my money not my parents. So i left and started to look at prices it the Internet in all the stores that sold that product. But then my mom convince me of getting it in Christmas because maybe MAYBE they will have some specials. Well what really happened is that i got tired of waiting plus i got some information that there wasn't any special bundle coming out. So on black Friday i made my move i went to Costco and there it was the best deal i could find. After some more little debate i got it and went to the register i was really happy that i got it but wait where am i going to watch it ?? I don't have a TV in my dorm , well that's for another day.

Injuries are not a good thing for anybody but especially athletes. Today I started my shoulder rehab. It was not fun at all , at first I was very happy because I was going to get better and all that but i was wrong. To get better it has to hurt and burn a lot more before i start seeing some changes. The trainer told me to do two sets of twenty five repetitions and that was one of the hardest thing Ive ever had to do. I was using muscles that I did not know I had, it was burning everywhere in my shoulder. See that's not where it ends I thought it was at least i was hoping it was, it continues with many other exercises that move different muscle to help me heal.

I ask myself how is this helping me if it hurts so much? I do not understand. When i ask the trainer she said that in order for my shoulder to get better they had to make the muscles around it stronger. It helps buy taking stress away from the bone and sharing it with the muscles that surround it.

It was hard and long but i was able to manage it and its all ready starting to feel better during practice. They say i should be completely healed in two or three months. This is a minor injury that happened to me last year at the end of the season. I cant imaging what would of happened if it would of been a worse recovery than the one I'm already in.

There was a girl in the volleyball team that tor her meniscus during the season and did not know until the break. When she came back from the break she had to have surgery to cut out the bad parts. She is going to be out for a very long time, just like some of the other players that also have had knee injuries or ankle injuries.

being around injuries and sports all my life i wanted to study Sports medicine. then i found out that their is actually nothing that is called that but that you have to become a doctor. After you become a doctor you have to specialize in the sports medicine area. I was really exited to study all this until one of my friends started studying and told me all about it and it just did not sound for me.

Anyways now i have change my mind and i think that my final mayor is going to be centered around business. Hopefully this will be my last change so i can focus on my studies and get it over with.

Wow today was a very long day. It all started with an intense eight a clock English class in which I learned a little about the teacher and what to expect from her the rest of the year. Then it was closely followed by a very interesting Spanish class. In the Spanish class we talked about bars in Spain compared to bars in the United states. Then we learned about the types of food that you can eat at the bars called "tapas"which in English it would be an appetizer. Is was very interesting to find out what they eat compared to what I eat. Then after some time of comparing both the class was over. It was over before I knew it, it went by so fast but my day was just beginning. Then I was off to my first volleyball practice of the year from twelve to three it was exhausting but I survived. Then I went to my dorm and ate a quick meal to continue the day with some energy. Then I started to to all my homework after two hours of brain work I went to the gym to work out. I spent an hour there then came back to my dorm ate and finish all my homework. Then after all that I had to read ahead so I can be stay in schedule. Finally after all this I have some time to relax.



I took this time to enjoy some television watch the Australian Open Maria Sharapova against Justine Henin and it was a very good match really tense all the time. It was an even match up until it broke open in the second game in which Maria dominated. After that i played some sports video games with my roommate and friends. Then to be it is i take a shower prepare my things to go to school and just go to sleep. This is a normal day with not that much homework to do but it is still a very long day.

Being this the fist day of homework it took a tole on me. Even writing this blog post i was very tired I was so tired I was falling asleep and it wasn't even that late. But worse days await me, this is college life is always changing. You have to make many sacrifices for the long run. But I'm really tired so I'm going to go to bed. Cant wait for tomorow another eight a clock class!! :(

Manifesto

Manifesto what is the meaning of this? When I heard manifesto I really did not know what it meant but I research it and found out what it meant. It is a public declaration of opinions, objectives and motives. They use this term a lot in the government and also when I ask my parents they said one of the most famous manifesto was the Communist Manifesto. They also told me that the US was founded around a manifesto I didn’t know what they were talking about. I had to research it and found out that it was a piece of document called the Declaration of Independence.

This semester I plan to work hard and strive for the best. I have set some hard goals for myself including an eight a clock class every day of the week. I also have to practice with the Lady Tigers Volleyball team every day. Is going to be hard but like the saying says “no pain no game.” I expect a challenging class with much great discussion about different themes about conflicts about life in general. Although I hope we don’t have that much home work even though that is almost impossible but it’s just a thought. I also expect some debates in which we can compare our different points of views on the subjects we choose to debate on. I also hope that is going to be a fun class even tough is so early in the morning. The students say that you are a very good teacher and that you are fun so I hope that is true.

Language is one many communication methods but to me is the most important of all. The English language to me is if not the hardest one of the hardest languages to learn out there. There are many variations of sounds with words that are written the same it was very confusing at the beginning. English being my second language I know the importance of languages in general. I think that is very important to know your own language well and if you can learn another language. Languages are not only a method of communication but a method of expressing yourself. Whether you express it in a song, or on a poem, or a novel. They all are ways of expression just in different forms.

My objective in this class is to better myself in the reading area and also in the interpretation area. Both of which I had some problems in the first semester but I tried hard to change through the semester. I also expect to be more outspoken about my thoughts and views on any argument or debate that we have. One of my main concerns is the writing skill that I need to brush up on. Even though at the end of last semester I was getting better I still need to improved and try to make less grammar error and less repetition of the same words.

My personal views, well I guess you can call me a liberal but I hate politics anyways to me they are all the same they say they are going to do something and then you don’t see it done. Plus so many of them have been corrupt that you don’t know who to believe anymore is sad to say but it happens on a daily basis. But enough of that matter, I am a catholic raised in the small yet beautiful island of Puerto Rico where the majority of the people are catholic. The environment that I was raised in I think has a lot to say of the way I think about races and color. We are always raised color blind you don’t see the color separation that you see around here in some places. We are thought from the beginning that we are all the same to me that am true unity of race because where I was born your color did not matter, you where no matter what a Puerto Rican not even if your face has the characteristics of Asian you still are considered a Puerto Rican. That is just one example of the way I was thought to look at people when I was little. It actually to me comes naturally.
